Speaker's corners in Malaysian universities

The announcement by the Deputy Higher Education that Malaysian universities set up speaker's corner as something that should be welcome. This announcement is important because we do not want to produce university students who are like human robots devoid off all those generic skill. One aspect that I notice among the tertiary students especially the ones studying in the IPTA is the lack of communication skill. They have difficulty in relaying messages loud and clear. The students really lack the confidence and they tend to speak slowly . The problem is not juust the difficulty in expressing in English as they are equally lacking in competence to express themselves clearly in Bahasa Melayu.

As such the announcement by the Deputy Higher Education is timely and should be welcome by various parties. The people in the government and the universities should not fear this sort of activity in the speaker's corner. They should encourage the students to take part in this sort of activity as we do not want to produce zombies that would parrrot the government's view only. We need students who can really think and able to express their views and opinions in such a way that would reflect their status as university students.

One way in which the students could be encouraged to participate in the speaker's corner is to award extra marks or to be part of the course requirements for university courses. We need to produce future leaders who can think and lead the nation to greater heights. Malaysia should be lead by leaders who are honest, full of integrity and able ward of all the bribery temptation.

Dr Mohd Ridhwan Tee Abdullah

It is sad to see the Malaysian Chinese lynching Dr Ridhwan for conveying the feelings of the majority of the Malays in the country. The attack is vicious from left to right. Anything said by that good fellow is seen as racist. To the non-Malays Dr. Ridhwan is an extremist sometimes his views are considered as more extreme than the Malays. There are also ungrateful bloggers who benefited the most from the so called racist bumiputra policy abusing verbally on the pretext of logical reasoning.

These people are actually racist themselves hiding behind the concept of equality and the so called fairness policies. The private agenda is to actually question the sanctity of the rights of the Malays and accepted social contract. They argue based on the legal platform to challenge the established modalities. These bozos are used by the racists to further their political agendas. These clowns are  drowned with congratulatory messages and comments and probable feeling satisfied. But it is clear that the ungrateful beneficiaries could not have enjoyed the benefits without the affirmative actions taken by the government. This is not to say that the government machinery is not without flaws but tie can be ractified in the right manner using the right platform. Please do not use the Bumiputra rights as a bargaining chips as the ramifications are far reaching.

My advice to them is to take into account the historical and socio-cultural factors when debating the equality issues. Focusing on the legalistic aspects only does not bring justice to the Bumiputeras. This will affect them and issue will be seen as uneven handed and ultimately will create the perception of injustices. I hope the Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak will no be played out by these ungrateful Malays. Malaysia will stand a better chance to survive based on the so called ketuenan Melayu in a good sense

Chinese school students and Dr Ridhuan Tee Abdullah

The Chinese community have always argued that Chinese schools in Malaysia produce good students. But the students that I have come across are those that are very chauvinistic. They normally would only mix among themselves. Very seldom that I see that they group together among other races.

I also notice that they are quite narrow minded. Chances are they would not accept the Malaysian way of life. To them their chineseness is superior. They are just focus on their ethnic group. This is really sad for the country. We need students who are willing to mix around with other races.

I have always come across Chinese educated students who are very robot like in their thinking. I suppose this has got to do with their learning in the school. This group of students lack general knowledge about Malaysia. I suspect very few know who Dr. Mahathir is. Few would know the name of our king. But I'm not surprised if they know quite a lot about actors in Hong Kong . What a sad future for Malaysia. I totally agree with what is espoused by Dr. Ridhuan Tee Abdullah that the Chinese are ultra kiasu lot.
